Orange Ribbon Campaign Program Activities

The Coalition's Orange Ribbon Campaign is an excellent way to
educate our shools and communities about the dangers of underage
drinking. Listed below are a veriety of activites you can do to reduce
underage drinking:

Contact Legislators :
Contact your legislators and educate them about the need for stronger
underage drinking laws. Youth can have an amazing impact with legislators.

Media Advocacy:
Advocate in your local media for stronger underage drinking laws by
writing letters to your editors, opinion editorials, articles for school and
churchpublications, and participating in media interviews.


Chalk Walk:
Use Chalk to write alcohol-free messages on the sidewalk outside of your
school or church. Invite the media to attend and film the messages.

Poster/Essay Contest:
Hold a poster/essay contest in your school or church, with the themes that
have to do with reducing underage drinking.

Daily Announcements :
Read facts about alcohol, read prevention messages, and provide resources
over the daliy announcements on a weekly basis.


Senior Night:
Conduct a senior sponsored night where you invite local college students
to meet with high school seniors to discuss the realities of alcohol use and
college life.



Empty Shoe Mural:
Create an empty shoe mural where empty shoes represent the number of
people in your community who have been killed by alcohol related causes.



Community Scan:
Take a small geographical area of your community and send students and
adults out to count the number of alcohol ads, outlets and billboards. Take
this information to media and local city councils and educate them about the
need for stronger underage drinking laws.
