Started in January 2001, the Orange Ribbon Campaign is a prevention program of the Indiana Colaition to Reduce Underage Drinking aimed at reducing underage drinking through public policy change. The campaign includes an advocacy guide, a product catalog; a media outreach campaign and many statewide and local prevention activities. Campaign activities run from February through April and culminate with the statewide SADD/Orange Ribbon Youth Celebration and “Lose the Booze Day”. During the campaign, schools, community groups, and grass-roots organizations can participate in activities on a statewide level or work with ICRUD to create, promote, and conduct their own local programs to advocate for public policy changes that reduce underage drinking. The Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking and the Orange Ribbon Campaign have partnered with two fantastic leadership programs in Indiana, ITI Adventure and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), to bring additional awareness to the issue of underage drinking. SADD has been a partner with the Orange Ribbon Campaign since 2002. The mission of SADD is to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking and other drug use, impaired driving, and other destructive decisions.
